Tom Ford
Tom Ford is an American designer who is known equally for his contributions to the fashion world with his own label, and the turnaround of Gucci, as well as an acclaimed film director.
In 1990 Tom Ford joined Gucci and became a full-fledged designer creating the brands signature label sunglasses, shoes, fragrances, and advertising campaigns.
After he left Gucci in 2004 Ford started his own label and created the highly successful line of Tom Ford sunglasses that continue to be highly desired. In 2006 he was awarded the Accessory Brand Launch award from the ACE for his sunglasses collection.
Ford became an international label when he opened a Swiss boutique, followed by a Canadian boutique, which were his first two stores outside of the US.
The Tom Ford men’s sunglasses collection is elegant and straightforward with simple metal frames containing rounded square lenses that are predominantly tinted black, although silver and brown also make appearances. The steel frames are extremely thin which makes them incredibly lightweight. Also featured in the men’s collection are plastic frames that are usually black with rounder dark tinted lenses.
The women’s sunglasses collection is much more stylish with a large amount of plastic spiral shaped glasses that come in all types of patterns and colours with vibrant and subdued lens tints. Although there are a few steel designs included in the women’s collection, it is interesting to note the emphasis on plastic frames making the collection focus directly opposite of the men’s collection.
